PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably producing an aqueous resin dispersion forming a coated film exhibiting a good finish appearance and having excellent water, weather and corrosion resistances. SOLUTION: The method for producing the aqueous resin dispersion is carried out as follows. A mixture (I) comprising a monomer component composed of (A) a polymerizable unsaturated monomer containing a fatty acid (a1), an epoxy group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a2) and an isocyanate compound (a3) as constituent units and (B) other polymerizable unsaturated monomers is finely dispersed in an aqueous medium so as to afford≤500 nm average particle diameter.
