FLUID APPLICATION TOOL AND METHOD FOR TIRE ASSEMBLIES

A tool and method for applying a fluid to an interior surface of a tire is provided. The invention may be used, for example, to apply a thin film of lubricant to the interior surface of a tire at the summit where contact with a support ring may occur during run-flat conditions. In certain embodiments, the tool includes a derailer (22) for placement between the tire (26) and wheel (28), an extension arm for selective deployment of the derailer into the tire, and a wand (34) for deployment form the derailer. The wand includes an aperture (60) through which fluid may be deposited onto the interior surface of the tire. In certain embodiments, a fluid supply mechanism is provided for supplying fluid to the wand.
