PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens control device capable of smoothly moving all lens groups by minimizing the operation of detecting abnormal position of a certain lens group. SOLUTION: The lens control device includes: the moving lens group LG3 and the detected lens group LG4, both of which are movable parallel to a photographic optical axis; driving means 19 and 23 for moving the moving lens group and the detected lens group; a position determination means 103 for determining whether the detected lens group is in a predetermined normal area or not; and a control means 101 for exerting control such that if the position determination means determines that the detected lens group is out of the normal area when the moving lens group moves forward from a predetermined initial position, the driving means are controlled to stop the moving lens group and move the detected lens group to the predetermined area.
