PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a welding tool in FSW (friction stir welding) where dust stuck to a space between a shoulder pin and a center pin is made easy to be mechanically exhausted, and the operation of the center pin on stir welding can be correctly performed. SOLUTION: In the method for cleaning a welding tool in FSW, a motor for driving a center pin where the frequent appearance of a center pin 1 is controlled to a shoulder pin 2 is applied, both of the projecting stroke c of the center pin to the shoulder pin and the entering stroke d of the center pin into the shoulder pin are made larger than those on the welding operation of the objects to be welded by the motor for driving a center pin, and, as the welding tool is rotated, the surface of the center pin is cleaned when the center pin is projected, and the inside face of the hole of the shoulder pin is cleaned when the center pin enters into the shoulder pin.
