<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for diagnosing genetic susceptibility to bone/joint diseases and to provide a prophylactic/therapeutic agent, etc., for the bone/joint diseases. <P>SOLUTION: The method for diagnosing the genetic susceptibility to the bone/joint diseases (e.g. osteoarthritis) comprises detecting polymorphism present in GDF5 (growth and differentiation factor 5)gene and/or its peripheral region.
