The SAW device includes an interdigital transducer (IDT) for exciting surface acoustic waves. The interdigital transducer includes an acoustic path which allows the propagation of more than three transversal vibration modes. The excitation function (EAS1) of the interdigital transducer in the transversal direction comprises at least one phase change. The interdigital transducer has at least three more modes than the number of phase changes in the excitation function.
