PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens unit for an image scanning system capable of aligning the axis of a front group lens and the axis of a rear group lens by an inexpensive composition. SOLUTION: The lens unit 8 includes: a base 18; the rear group lens 11 mounted on the base 18 directly; and the front group lens 12 accommodated in a cylindrical member 10 and mounted on the base 18 via a mounting plate 19. The cylindrical member 10 is fitted in an opening 20 made in the mounting plate 19 and can be rotated around its optical axis. Using three adjustment screws 24, 25, and 26, a distance between the mounting plate 19 and the base 18 can be adjusted in the positions of the adjusting screws 24, 25, and 26.
