PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a double-sided image reader capable of accurately reading image information of both surfaces of an original manuscript without causing interference, and also, capable of realizing the acceleration of a reading speed and the miniaturization. SOLUTION: In the double-sided image reader 1, a first cylindrical lens 28 is provided so as to cover the opening of a first reflector 27 covering a first light source 26 of a first read 13. A second cylindrical lens 39 is provided so as to cover an opening of a second reflector 38 covering a second light source 37 of a second read 14. A light emission range to one surface of the original manuscript by the first read 13, and that of to the other surface of the original manuscript by the second read 14, are limited so as not to overlap with each other when projected on a virtual plane parallel to the original manuscript. By this, mutual interference between the first/second read parts 13, 14 can be suppressed. Consequently, an interval between an original manuscript read position 35 by the first read part 13 and that 36 of by the second read part 14 can be narrowed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
