PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner which stably compresses dust and dirt, and has a high durability and a high usability. SOLUTION: This electric vacuum cleaner has a dust collecting container 4 which captures dust and dirt, a compression plate 30 which is arranged in the dust collecting container 4, and a compression driving motor 56 which drives the compression plate 30. The electric vacuum cleaner can capture more dust and dirt in the dust collecting container 4 by compressing dust and dirt in the dust collecting container 4 with the compression plate 30. In the electric vacuum cleaner, the compression plate 30 is constituted in a manner to be slidable in the direction for compressing dust and dirt in the dust collecting container 4 and in the reverse direction. The operating speed in the compression direction is set at a speed having a sufficient margin to the strength/durability of the compression plate 30 and the compression driving motor 56, and also, the operating speed in the reverse direction is set to be as fast as possible. Thus, the electric vacuum cleaner is provided which has a high durability/usability by a simple constitution without greatly extending the compressing operation time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
