<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of erroneous detection in a human face identification method that uses an average face image template for detecting a face image from a detection objective image, by matching between the detection objective image and the template, since the image of a part other than a face is falsely detected as a facial image, when a standard for the template is relaxed for preventing omission in face detection due to change of the direction of the face. <P>SOLUTION: This face image detecting device 1 is provided with an image reading means 10 for reading a detection objective area, a characteristic vector generating means 30 dividing a normalized image into a plurality of blocks, calculating the representative value of the image characteristic quantity for each block, and generating a characteristic vector, showing the characteristics of the image property from the representative value, at least two or more determination means 50 determining whether there is a face image inside the detection objective area, based on the image characteristics shown by the characteristic vector by using different criteria, and a determination means selecting part 40 making a selection between the determination means according to the characteristic vector. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
