The invention relates to a drive train for a motor vehicle comprising a front axle and a rear axle one of which is permanently driven and the other one is driven as required. Said drive train comprises a drive unit that is mounted at right angles in the front of the motor vehicle and provides a driving torque by means of a power take-off element, said power take-off element being linked with the permanently driven axle. An angular gear is mounted in the area of the front axle and is linked with a propeller shaft which transmits the driving torque to the rear axle. The drive drain also comprises a friction clutch system for engaging the axle which is driven as required. The friction clutch system and the angular gear are integrated in the area of the front axle.
