PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polybenzoxazole resin and a precursor thereof that shows high transparency and low refractive index in the near infrared area that is used in the optical communication, has a low dielectric constant that is useful as a high-frequency electronic material and shows excellent processability. SOLUTION: This polybenzoxazole resin bears, on the main chain, a repetitive units bearing perfluoroalkylene group and has a weight-average molecular weight of 3,000 to 1,000,000 calculated as polystyrene.
