<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus, a method and a program for controlling printing capable of selecting an optimum resolution in accordance with manuscript data. <P>SOLUTION: An image developing section 403 analyzes a setting mode of a resolution specified by a printing indicating section 401, and when it is determined that a processing is performed at the resolution of the manuscript data, the resolution of the manuscript data whose printing is indicated is set as a resolution for the processing. In addition, when it is selected that the maximum value of the resolution for the processing is designated, and the maximum value is designated, the resolution of the manuscript data whose printing is indicated is compared with the maximum value, and the lower resolution is set as the resolution for the processing.
