The proposed method for determining an elevation by leveling is distinctive by sighting, concurrently with sighting at the leveling rod, at the BR-180 prism that, which is installed so the prism site is vertically arranged, determining the reading on the leveling rod by the horizontal scale of the level and the reading that corresponds to image of the center of the level lens on the prism, determining the real reading on the leveling rod that corresponds to the removal of an optical wedge induced by atmospheric air as the difference of the said readings. The present invention allows measurement accuracy to be increased.
