[Also in Division F3] A load transfer sleeve 10 comprises a plurality of layers of a fibrous material the central portion 12 of the sleeve being impregnated with an elastic resinous material. The fibres of one layer may be placed at an angle to the fibres of an adjacent layer. The fibres may be organic or inorganic, several examples of each being given in the Specification. Natural rubbers or several synthetic rubbers may be used for the impregnation. The ends of the sleeve 10 are impregnated with a resinous epoxy resin and secured to a flange 28 of a metal head plate 25 of a rocket motor 20 and to an inhibitor 23 of an epoxy-polyamide impregnated nylon which is, in turn, bonded to a solid propellant grain 24. The rocket motor 20 comprises a metal easing 22, a layer of asbestos filled, phenolic resin thermal insulation 21, longitudinal strips 40 of cushioning material and a grooved, foamed silicone rubber cushion 41. The upper end of the motor casing 22 communicates with the grooves in the cushion 41 through radial vent ports 45.
