[Also in Division F4] A packing for use in mass or heat transfer apparatus wherein two fluids, particularly a gas and a liquid, are brought into contact with each other comprises, a series of contiguous cellular structures arranged in layers, each cellular structure being formed of sinuous strips of sheet material arranged as shown in Fig. 10 to form hexagonal cells, the touching faces of adjacent strips being bonded to each other. The cells in adjacent layers are off-set relatively to each other. The packing may be wettable or non-wettable and may be made of paper or nylon and impregnated with a phenolic-resin.
