BRANCHED OPTICAL LINE MONITORING SYSTEM AND METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method of cheaply monitoring a plurality of branched optical lines.

SOLUTION: A test pulse light output from an OTDR unit 20 propagates via an optical coupler 31 to a main optical line 40 directed to an optical branch 50. The branch 50 branches the test light into four test lights to be input to a wavelength selector 60 provided on a branched optical line 70n. Only the test light output to the branched optical line 701by the branch 50 passes through the wavelength selector 60 and propagates over the branched optical line 701to arrive at an optical filter 711, and this filter 711reflects the test light. If a back scattered light appears during propagating of the test light from the optical coupler 31 to the optical filter 711, the scattered light propagates to the optical coupler 31, and the OTDR unit 20 detects this light via the optical coupler 31.
