PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize prevention of erroneous detection during usage for a long period of time of a sheet material discrimination device not requiring paper kind selection setting work by a user and capable of efficiently performing good heat treatment, fixing and image formation even if the paper having any surface roughness is used and to provide a heating device using this and various kinds of image formation devices. SOLUTION: A probe distal end slide-rubbing means having reference surface property is provided on a probe abutment opposed surface of a piezo-electric contact type media sensor and detection result is corrected based on a signal when a probe distal end is slide-rubbed before detection of a sheet material.
