A setting gauge for railway points or switches comprises a body having at least two portions of different predetermined known thickness and holding means for holding one of those portions in a gap to determine the width of the gap in accordance with the thickness of that portion. A corresponding method of setting railway points or switches comprises holding a portion of a gauge in a gap, that portion being of predetermined known thickness, and determining the width of the gap in accordance with the thickness of that portion. Aspects of the gauge and method may be applied to setting and or checking flangeway gaps and the gaps between kicking straps and stock rails in a set of points. |
