<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten time required for image formation on a sheet, without limiting the number of documents, the number of sheets subject to image formation, and the number of sheets to be circulated, in an image forming apparatus that circulates three sheets when forming images on both sides of the sheets. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an automatic document carrier for automatically carrying documents; an image reading means for reading the image of each document; a storage means for storing the data of the image read by the image reading means; an image forming means for forming the image of the document onto a sheet; and an automatic both-sided carrying mechanism for allowing image formation on both sides of a sheet by switching the sheet back.
