PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolytic cell which hardly causes temperature rise in spite of a large capacity and has high pressure resistant performance, as the electrolytic cell used in a method for producing water for sterilization by electrolytically oxidizing a chlorine ion solution in the electrolytic cell and diluting the electrolytic oxidization liquid with water. SOLUTION: The electrolytic cell is formed so as to have a double housing structure, an outer housing is made cylindrical in order to bear pressure-resistant performance and an inner housing is formed so as to have a rectangular parallel-piped structure in consideration of electrolytic performance and heat conductivity. The outer housing has the cylinder diameter of 180 mm or below, desirably 150 mm or below as a structure required for pressure-resistance. Further, the electrolytic cell is constituted such that diluting water is allowed to flow down through a space between the outer housing and the inner housing, the electrolytic oxidization liquid produced in the inner housing is discharged into the diluting water in the outer housing and, thereby, the dilution mixing is completed in the outer housing. Furthermore, in order to align a flow of liquids upon electrolysis, an electrode plate is formed in a vertically long shape having an aspect ratio of≥2, desirably≥4, and the inner housing and the outer housing are formed in vertically long shapes so as to fit the electrode.
