PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel naphthoquinone compound which can provide a high sensitivity electrophotographic phtoconductor, and to provide the electrophotographic photoconductor excellent in the sensitivity characteristics, and the durability and solvent resistance of a photosensitive layer. SOLUTION: The naphthoquinone compound is represented by formula (1) (wherein (a) is 3 or 4; and when (a) is 3, X is a trivalent group, and when (a) is 4, X is a tetravalent group). The elctrophotographic photoconductor has the photosensitive layer comprising a charge generator, the naphthoquinone compound represented by the above formula (1), and a binder resin on an electroconductive substrate.
