<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-color image forming apparatus which enables a decrease in wait time by a phase adjustment and a decrease in first print time with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: The multi-color image forming apparatus includes: a plurality of rotors for carrying images; a plurality of motors for driving the corresponding rotors; a means for detecting a member to be detected which is provided on each rotor; a motor control means for controlling the speed and position of each motor; and a phase detection means for detecting the phase of each rotor from a result obtained by detecting the member to be detected which is provided on each rotor. The multi-color image forming apparatus restrains color misalignment by adjusting the phases of the rotors.
