The invention relates to a closing unit for an injection molding machine comprising: two die platens (4, 6); a closing force application unit (20); at least one crank mechanism (10) for displacing, without closing force, the die platens (4, 6) toward and away from one another, and; a longer connecting rod (12) and a shorter connecting rod (14) of which the longer connecting rod (12) is at least indirectly connected to the first die platen (4) and the shorter connecting rod (14) is connected to the second die platen (6). A drawback of this is that the open position of the moving platens (4, 6) depends on the form tool height such that the extension of the closing unit (1) relative to the fixed die platen is likewise dependent thereon. The aim of the invention is to provide a closing unit (1) which is as structurally compact as possible and is exact with regard to the relative arrangement of its die platens (4, 6). To this end, the invention provides that both die platens (4, 6) are arranged in a manner that enables them to move, and a supporting device (8) is provided via which the closing force application unit (20) is connected in a fixed manner to a machine frame (2).
