PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous coating composition forming a coating film which hardly adsorbs flavoring components in an alcoholic drink and exhibits excellent corrosion resistance against alcoholic drinks containing a sulfite salt and excellent processability. SOLUTION: The aqueous coating composition comprises an aqueous medium and, dispersed therein in the presence of an amine or ammonia, a self-emulsifying bisphenol-type epoxy resin (A), obtained by reacting a carboxy group-containing acrylic copolymer (A1) obtained by copolymerizing methacrylic acid/styrene/ethyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate in a composition (wt%) of (50-70)/(10-30)/(10-20)/(0-20) with an epoxy resin (A2) of a specific structure containing a high-molecular weight epoxy resin, and a resol-type phenolic resin (D) obtained from a trifunctional phenol as a monomer and having a content of a mononuclear component bearing one benzene ring in the resin of at most 1 wt%, a number-average molecular weight of 250-1,000 and a total amount of methylol groups, alkoxylated methyl groups, methylene bonds and dimethylene ether bonds per one phenyl group of 1.5-2.5.
