PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing coated paper having a good printed gloss, smoothness, white paper gloss, water-absorbing/thickening property and ink-setting property, and the coated paper produced by the method. SOLUTION: This method for producing the coated paper comprising a coating process of forming an under-coated layer by applying an under-coating composition containing a pigment and binder on a stock paper for the coated paper and forming a finish-coated layer by applying a finish-coating composition containing the pigment and binder on the under-coated layer is provided by containing 5-13 pts. mass binder based on 100 pts. mass pigment in the under-coating composition, and 3-20 pts. mass hollow plastic pigment and 60-95 pts. mass heavy calcium carbonate (based on 100 pts. mass total pigment) in the pigment contained in the under-coating composition.
