PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a speed-change controller of an automatic transmission for vehicles which provides an appropriate speed change range when a manual operator for manually switching a speed change range is pressed down for an extended period by a driver. SOLUTION: When a shift lever (manual operator) 72 for manually switching a speed change range to a low speed side is pressed down for an extended period by a driver, the final speed change range is finally reached when a switching requirement signal is continuously outputted from a down shift switch (selecting switch) 82 during extended pressed-down operation, and is set by a final speed change state setting means 146 according to the travelling state of a vehicle. The actual speed change range is continuously switched by a switching control means 130 until the final speed change range is reached as updated by the final speed change state setting means 146.
