PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable optical semiconductor device in which dust existing in an enclosed space defined by the recess in an insulating substrate and a translucent lid does not adhere, as floating dust, to the light receiving part of an optical semiconductor element, external light can be received normally by the optical semiconductor element without causing distortion over a long term, and a normal electric signal can be delivered to an external apparatus or element. SOLUTION: The optical semiconductor device 9 comprises an insulating substrate 1 provided, in the upper surface thereof, with a recess 1a for containing an optical semiconductor element 3, a wiring conductor 2 led out from the inside to the outside of the recess 1a in the insulating substrate 1, an optical semiconductor element 3 having a light receiving part 3a in the center of the upper surface and mounted on the bottom face of the recess 1a in the insulating substrate 1 while connecting an electrode 4 electrically with the wiring conductor 2, and a translucent lid 5 fixed to the upper surface of the insulating substrate 1 to close the recess 1a and provided, on the lower surface thereof, with a protrusion 5a surrounding the light receiving part 3a.
