PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the power consumption for a standby screen on a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: When the standby screen is displayed on a liquid crystal display, a power saving signal is inputted from a CPU, and a binary mode and a partial mode are determined. In the case of the binary mode, V line inversion drive is employed against dot inversion drive in a normal display mode to save the power. In the case of the partial mode, a display area is driven by dot inversion drive and a non-display area is driven by V line inversion drive, unless the binary mode is set; and the display area and the non-display area are driven by V line inversion drive with different frequencies, when the binary mode is set.
