A double containment storage tank (1), suitable for storing cold liquids, is provided with a non-metallic thermal protection system (21, 22, 23, 24, 26) comprising: [a] a first vapour-tight and gas-tight PU coating (21) applied by spraying on the inner surface of the floor (11) and walls (12) of the tank (1); [b] a first insulation PU foam layer (22) arranged on the inner side of the first coating (21); [c] a second liquid-tight PU coating (23) applied in at least the bottom corner sections of the tank by spraying on the inner surface of the first foam layer (22); [d] a second insulation PU foam layer (24) arranged on the inner side of the second coating (23); [e] a third liquid-tight PU coating (26) arranged by spraying on the inner side of the second foam layer (24).
