The side airbag (3) fitted with a gas generator (2) is inflated in case of an impact in order to protect the upper body and the head of the driver or passenger additionally secured with a seat belt. The inflated bag (3) has a larger lower (6) and a smaller upper volume (5). Front (11) and rear (10) of the airbag (3) are connected by a strap (15) creating a comparatively bigger volume in the area in front of the seatbelt and a smaller volume behind the seatbelt.
