PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminscent element of high efficiency and long lifetime. SOLUTION: The organic EL element 100 has a structure wherein a hole injection electrode 2, a hole injection layer 3, a hole transportation layer 4, a light emitting layer 5, an emission assist layer 6, an electron transportation layer 7 and an electron injection electrode 8 are formed sequentially on a substrate 1. A hole transportation material is employed as the host material of the light emitting layer 5. The emission assist layer 6 is composed of TBADN having high optical pumping emission quantum yield. The role for generating exciton and the role for converting excitation energy into light emission are shared by the emission assist layer 6 and the light emitting layer 5.
