PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bisphenols (I) which has a high reaction rate and a high yield and does not need the recovery of a diluent solvent. SOLUTION: This method for producing the bisphenols of formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is hydrogen or a 1-4C alkyl group; and R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each a 1-5C alkyl group) comprises reacting a dialkylphenol of formula (II) (wherein R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are the same as the defined above) with a trioxane of formula (III) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is the same as defined above) in a reaction solvent selected from 6-10C aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents and 6-12C aromatic hydrocarbon solvents in the presence of an anionic surface active agent and an acid catalyst.
