PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silencer for an internal combustion having a simplified structure and an improved silencing performance and having an extended control range of the quality of exhaust sound. SOLUTION: A muffler device 40 comprises chambers 45a, 45b and 45c each defined as a sound absorbing chamber in a cylinder 42. The cylinder 42 has an outer cylinder 51, an intermediate cylinder 52 and an inner cylinder 53 overlapping inside and outside. Two-layer spaces 54, 55 are formed by using the spaces between the cylinders 51, 52 and 53.
