PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a sealed battery wherein an opening of a battery can be surely sealed with a lid even if a current collecting lead is seam welded to the peripheral edge of the opening of the battery can with the lid. SOLUTION: A notch 16 for passing a positive electrode current collecting lead 6 drawn from an outer peripheral side of an electrode body 2 is performed on a long side 3a of the outer peripheral edge of the lid 3 sealing the opening top face of the laterally long battery can 1. The cut width size of the notch 16 is smaller than the thickness of the positive electrode current collecting lead 6, and the lateral width of the notch 16 is larger than the lateral width of the positive electrode current collecting lead 6. The electrode body 2 is housed in the battery can 1, the positive electrode current collecting lead 6 is inserted into the notch 16 of the lid 3, and the lid 3 is inserted in the opening top face of the battery can 1. Then, the positive electrode current collecting lead 6 is seam welded to the opening peripheral edge 3 of the battery can 1 with the outer peripheral edge of the lid 3.
