Systems and methods allow a customer to determine a delivery status for a delivery item having an affixed delivery fee indicator such as a retail postage stamp (fig. 1, 110), using a unique identifier (fig. 1, 106) associated with the delivery fee indicator, such as a unique barcode (fig. 1, 102), on a retail postage stamp (fig. 1, 104).
