PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a grater by which food material to be grated can be grated efficiently and grated Japanese radish delicious like that grated with metallic grater is prepared simply, and which has simple structure and excellent productivity and maintenance property. SOLUTION: This grater is provided with a grating plate 11 to which the food material 7 to be grated is pressed by a projecting and biased presser plate 9 and having grating teeth in an inner container 3 to grate the food material 7 pressed to the grating teeth by the presser plate 9 by rotate-operating an operation handle 1. At the grating plate 11, a plurality of long holes extending in a radial direction are formed side by side at intervals in the revolving direction of the presser plate 9, and a plurality of the grating teeth are formed projecting at the opening edges of the long holes. Thus, when rotate-operating the handle 1 to make the presser plate 9 make planetary movement, the food material 7 to be grated with the grating teeth is thrown down and housed one by one into a lower container 4 from the long holes with the planetary movement of the presser plate 9.
