PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for detecting combustion of an unexpected type of gas comparatively simply and precisely. SOLUTION: A controller 40 of a gas fan heater is provided with a forced combustion means 43 for burning gas forcedly by predetermined flow rate of gas within predetermined time from ignition, a storage means 47 for storing an index related to margin of rise of temperature of a thermistor 25 and the instrument detected through a thermistor 26 in a nonvolatile memory, a temperature comparing means 48 for comparing with an index at this time by referring to the index stored at the time of ignition at the last time, and an unexpected gas detection means 44. The unexpected gas detection means 44 determines whether it is combustion of the unexpected type of gas or not based on the result of comparison by the temperature comparing means 48. When it is determined that it is combustion of the unexpected type of gas, supply gas is shut off, operation of the gas fan heater is stopped, reignition is made impossible, error of the unexpected type of gas is stored, and an error code is displayed in a display device 37.
