PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet processing apparatus carrying out appropriate bundle processing such as bookbinding according to the thickness of a sheet (paper).

SOLUTION: In an image forming apparatus to which a post processing apparatus 100 is connected or which is provided therewith, the post processing apparatus 100 is provided with light emitting diode 111 detecting the thickness of the paper bundle and a light receiving position sensor 112, and the bookbinding possible number of pages is changed or the setting for the thickness of paper inside a paper cassette is changed based on the detected thickness of the paper bundle.
