PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to select and set an intended alternate route easily and surely, when setting the alternate route in a navigation system in order to bypass a congested route. SOLUTION: When a traffic congestion on a guidance route is detected ahead in its travel direction by a guidance route congestion detecting section 31 using information from a VISC information inputting section 14, a return intersection candidate detecting section 33 computes an intersection for returning to the former guidance route after bypassing the traffic congestion, based on node data making up links of road data. Return intersection candidates obtained from results of the computation are respectively displayed by a return intersection candidate displaying section 34 at corresponding intersection regions on the guidance route so as to be identifiable. When one of them is selected by the user, the return intersection candidate selection displaying section 41 displays it so as to be identifiable from the other candidates. In the case it is checked by the user, an alternate route computing section 39 computes the alternate route, and then a guidance is carried out by using the alternate route as a guidance route.
