PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive toroidal coil linear motor with a simple configuration without generating side pull. SOLUTION: The toroidal coil linear motor includes an axis 41 slidably arranged to a housing, a cylindrical element 42 fixed to the axis, and an armature 43 fixed to the housing opposite from the outside around the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical element through an air gap. The cylindrical element 42 has toroidal magnetic teeth 42a, 42b on both axial ends, and the armature 43 has a toroidal coil 44, a pair of armature yokes 45a, 45b that hold the toroidal coil and a cylindrical yoke 46 that covers the outer periphery of the armature yokes. The armature yokes 45a, 45b have, on its inner surface, a pair of permanent magnets 47a, 47b in N pole and S pole that can be disposed opposite to each toroidal magnetic teeth 42a, 42b. When an AC current is made to flow in the toroidal coil 44, the cylindrical element 42 and the axis 41 horizontally reciprocate. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
