A load sensor of an occupant detection device is installed at a seat and generates a load information signal from a load detection value depending on a load applied to the seat. A control device is electrically connected to the load sensor and determines an occupant sitting on the seat. When an amount of deviation of a current load detection value occurs relative to a predetermined standard value, an adjustment section adjusts the load detection value to the standard value. A calculation section accumulates the amounts of deviation when adjustment is made by the adjustment section and calculates an absolute variation amount from the accumulated deviation amount. A storage section stores the absolute variation amount. The load sensor used for occupant determination can be suitably adjusted.
