<p>It is intended to provide a hybridization apparatus whereby a hybridization reaction can be carried out at a high reproducibility. This object can be achieved by providing a hybridization apparatus (2) for a hybridization reaction having a cover member (10) forming a cavity (12) which involves a nucleic acid probe fixation region (6) of the substrate having the nucleic acid probe fixed thereon and in which a liquid for the hybridization reaction can be pooled, wherein the region exposed in the cavity (12) has a hydrophobic region (18) at least a part thereof. By controlling the surface characteristics of the region exposed in the cavity wherein the hybridization reaction is to be carried out, signal intensity can be elevated and scattering thereof can be regulated. Thus, the hybridization reaction can be performed at a high reproducibility.</p>
