A clamping device (35) for machine tools capable of ensuring the fixing force for the tailstock (4) while maintaining the device compact as a whole, and moreover capable of reducing the number of parts involved. In the clamping device for machine tools, in which a tailstock (4) (movable carriage) movably mounted on a fixed bed (2) is clamped to a specified position on the fixed bed, a stationary rack (36) (stationary-side fitting member) extending in a direction of the move is fixed to the fixed bed, a movable rack (37) (movable-side fitting member) is provided on the tailstock so as to be movable in a direction crossing the move direction, and wedge-shaped fitting surfaces are formed at mutually opposing portions of the stationary rack (36) and the movable rack (37). The movable rack is driven into advance-and-retreat motions between a clamping position where the movable rack is fitted to the stationary rack and an unclamping position where the clamping is released. <IMAGE> |
