PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a moving handrail device of a passenger conveyor in which a pressingly holding load by a pressing roller and a stationary roller driving a moving rail is reduced when the passenger conveyor is stopped. SOLUTION: While the passenger conveyor is stopped, this moving handrail device brakes the moving handrail 1 by pressing by the plane of a braking body 27 by the operation of an operating mechanism 30. Also, the pressing force of the pressing roller 13 to the moving handrail 1 is reduced by raising a movable body 7 by the energization force of a pressing force reducing energizing body 11 according to a reduction in the tension of a driving chain 9 by the deenergization of a drive source by the passenger conveyor in stopping. By this, dents are prevented from occurring by pressing the moving handrail 1 in stopping by the plane of the braking body 27. In addition, the pressing load of the pressing roller 13 is reduced by the action of the pressing force reducing energizing body 11 in stopping to prevent the aesthetic appearance of the moving handrail 1 from being deteriorated by reducing the occurrence of dents in the moving handrail by the pressing of the pressing roller 13.
