<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To cope with both a lengthening of a scanner motor life and a shortening of a first print time. <P>SOLUTION: In order to reduce the driving time of a scanner motor making a polygon mirror turned, the driving of the scanner motor is forbidden during a designated period of time after supplying power or after detecting opening or closing of a door, even if the printing-preparation demand generated by operating keys, opening or closing a manuscript feeder or installing the manuscript into the manuscript feeder, is given.
