PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of an optical element and a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: The optical element 100 comprises a substrate 110, a pillar 130 which is formed at the upper part of the substrate 110 to include and upper surface 132 through which light is emitted or inputted, a resin layer 140 formed in a region surrounding the pillar 130 at the upper part of the substrate 110, a reinforcing layer 180 formed of a material which is harder than the resin layer 140 at the upper part of the resin layer 140, and an electrode 150 which includes a bonding part 156 formed at the upper part of the reinforcing layer 180 and is electrically connected with the end of an exposed region at the upper surface 132 of the pillar 130.
