The invention relates to the rear axle of a two-track motor vehicle comprising an individual wheel suspension provided with lower rods which guide the wheel carrier, and an upper guide device which engages with an extension arm of the wheel carrier, said extension arm guiding in the region essentially above the wheel. The upper guiding device is formed by a physical guiding path comprising a guiding element which can be displaced along said guiding path. Preferbaly, the guiding path is fixed directly or indirectly to the body of the vehicle and the guiding element is fixed directly or indirectly to the extension arm of the wheel carrier. The guiding path can be linear or curved with a constant or variable curvature extending along the guiding path. Additionally, a linear guiding path can comprise an adjusting groove which enables an additional movement to be imprinted on the guiding element when it is displaced along the guiding path. Preferably, the carrier spring element is positioned between the extension arm of the wheel carrier and the body. Said type of rear axle is characterised in that it comprises the largest possible space between the two wheels and by also fulfilling the claims with respect to driving comfort and dynamics.
