PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a micro optical element causing no damage of a polarization state which affects a contrast ratio in an optical system.

SOLUTION: The micro optical element 3 is made by periodically arranging a plurality of micro optical elements 3 which have a light condensing function for incident light through the curved surface shape and has a substantially flat part 3a for the incident light on a part of the curved surface shape 3b of each optical element 3.
