PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost circulation fluidized furnace having high desulfurization efficiency, allowing suppression of an input amount of a desulfurization material, and to provide an operation method therefor. SOLUTION: This circulation fluidized furnace 10 having a riser 11 mixing treated matter with a flowing medium circulating inside the furnace and combusting it, and a desulfurization means putting the desulfurization material into the riser to perform desulfurization is provided with an SOx analyzer 33 detecting SOx concentration contained in combustion exhaust gas. In the circulation fluidized furnace, a first step for controlling a primary air flow rate introduced from a riser lower part by a primary air flow control valve 34 to increase primary superficial velocity, and a second step for controlling a flowing medium feeder 26 to increase differential pressure inside the furnace are sequentially stepwise performed.
